Sen. James Meeks led a boycott of Chicago Public School’s first day of classes. While some were behind Meeks, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley didn’t exactly lend his support. The Tribune has the story. 

Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan wants legislators back in session earlier than normal, as he hopes they will consider leasing the Illinois Lottery. The money generated from the least would be used for a public works construction program that has been in the works for years. Read more in the Peoria Journal Star. 

Gov. Rod Blagojevich recently announced an overhaul of an ethics reform bill. Among other things, the bill would prohibit people who held state contracts worth at least $50,000 from donating to the governor. The State Journal Register had a good Q&A about the bill. Read it here.
